1Decarboxylization: Spread cannabis flower evenly on a baking sheet and roast at 220°F (110°C) with convection for 45 minutes. Let cool.
-
2Add butter, water, and decarboxylized cannabis to a pot. Simmer at very low heat (around 158°F/70°C) for 2 hours – never boil.
-
3Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a bowl. Press out the cannabis residue thoroughly.

4Let the liquid cool. Butter will rise to the top; water will settle at the bottom.
-
5Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until solid. Pour off the water and remove the cannabutter.
-
6Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or frozen for up to 6 months.
Pro Tips
- Tip: Never let the simmering temperature rise above 194°F (90°C), or cannabinoids will degrade. Water prevents the butter from burning.
