Instructions

  1. 1
Heat oil in a small cast iron pot (tukbaegi) or heavy pot. Sauté garlic and ginger for 30 seconds.
  2. 2
Stir in gochujang and gochugaru, roast over medium heat for 1 minute — the paste should become dark and fragrant.
  3. 3
Pour in broth, bring to boil. Stir in soy sauce.
  4. 4
Add soft tofu in large chunks directly to the simmering broth — don't stir, it breaks apart easily.
  5. 5
Add seafood. Simmer for 3–4 minutes over high heat.
  6. 6
Just before serving: crack a raw egg directly into the soup, turn off heat. The egg cooks from residual heat.
  7. 7
Stir in regular sesame oil. Drizzle cannabis sesame oil on top cold — never heat. Top with scallions.

Pro Tips

  • Sundubu Jjigae is traditionally served in a tukbaegi (stone bowl) directly on the gas burner at the table — bubbling hot.
  • The egg stays almost raw — if that's not your thing, cover pot briefly with a lid and let it cook for 2 more minutes.
  • Never roast cannabis sesame oil with the gochujang — the heat would destroy all cannabinoids.
  • Adjust heat to taste: Reduce gochujang for a milder version.
