Instructions
-
1Yeast dough: Mix flour, yeast, sugar, and baking powder. Add milk and oil, knead for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let rise for 1 hour.
-
2Marinate pork belly: Mix hoisin, soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, and five-spice powder. Marinate meat for 30 minutes.
-
3Preheat oven to 356°F (180°C). Place pork belly on a baking rack, roast for 35–40 minutes until caramelized. Brush with marinade every 10 minutes.
-
4Form dough into a log, cut into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval (about 4×2.4 inches / 10×6 cm).
-
5Place an oil-soaked piece of parchment paper on one half, fold dough closed (like a book). Let rise for another 20 minutes.
-
6Prepare a bamboo steamer or pot with steamer insert. Steam bao buns for 8–10 minutes over high heat.
-
7Cut cooked pork belly into slices.
-
8Stir ZenOil into the sriracha mayo while cold.
-
9Open buns and fill: pork belly, cucumber slices, green onions, cannabis sriracha mayo.
Pro Tips
- The parchment paper trick prevents bao buns from sticking together during steaming.
- No time for yeast dough? Frozen pre-made bao dough packs are available at Asian markets.
- Cannabis sesame oil in the sauce — the sesame roast flavor pairs perfectly with the Asian flavor profile.
- Steaming instead of baking makes bao buns soft and fluffy like clouds — this only works with steam.
