Instructions

  1. 1
Pat black beans dry. In a skillet without oil, toast for 5 minutes over medium heat until slightly dried — less moisture = better patty.
  2. 2
In a bowl, mash beans with a fork until about 2/3 crushed — coarse, not fine.
  3. 3
Finely chop onion and garlic. Stir in smoked paprika, cumin, chipotle, soy sauce, egg, and oats/panko.
  4. 4
Add flour, knead well. Chill for 15 minutes — the mixture will firm up.
  5. 5
Make chipotle-cannabis mayo: mix mayo with 1 tsp chipotle-adobo sauce. Fold in cannabis-coconut oil while cold.
  6. 6
Form mixture into 4 patties (about 3/4 inch thick).
  7. 7
Heat vegetable oil in skillet. Fry patties over medium-high heat 4–5 minutes per side until crispy outside.
  8. 8
Toast buns. Build burger: cannabis-chipotle mayo, lettuce, tomato, patty, avocado slices, onion rings.

Pro Tips

  • Drying and toasting beans beforehand is the most important step — wet patties will fall apart.
  • Don't over-mash — coarse pieces provide texture and prevent a mushy consistency.
  • Cannabis-coconut oil in the mayo: neutral flavor and well distributed in the fatty dressing.
  • For vegan version: flax egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water, soak 10 min) instead of egg.
